Due Process Hearings: The Art of Identifying and Managing Areas of Potential Dissension and Opportunity

This session will focus on the ways in which a hearing officer may identify and manage areas of dissension and opportunities during a due process hearing. Examining the opening stages of a hearing, and the hearing officer’s role, we’ll analyze thorny issues that may arise. We’ll furthermore identify areas of potential dissension among various hearing participants and consider possible interventions. The session will also consider potential opportunities for the parties to collaborate or agree during the hearing process. Discussions held over the course of this session will provide hearing officers with tools to implement creative solutions.
