The presenters posit that a substantial portion of special education disputes are the result of weak interpersonal relationships between district staff and parents, and that approaches designed to build relationships and develop effective communication skills and perspective taking, specifically those based in the theoretical foundations of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), can substantially reduce conflicts in the special education process.
