Susan is the mother of three children with learning disabilities. A parent advocate and a regional education coordinator for South Carolina’s Parent Training and Information Center, PRO*Parents of South Carolina, Susan, one of the first trained IEP facilitators in South Carolina, is an active member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA), The Learning Disabilities Association of America, along with training parents, teachers, attorneys, and other professionals nationwide on Effective Advocacy, Parent Leadership, Reading, RTI, and Transition. She has conducted training programs in South Carolina, Maryland, Missouri, Tennessee, and North Carolina, Florida and Texas. Susan also has written articles published in The Special Ed Advocate, sharing her belief that building collaborative relationships between parents, educators and administrators creates better outcomes for all children.
Susan serves on the Executive Advisory Board of Learning Disabilities Association of South Carolina and as a parent leader for the National Association for the Education of African American Children with Learning Disabilities (NAEAACLD). Susan also serves on the South Carolina Department of Education’s Community of Practitioners and Project 180 Council, programs designed to provide technical assistance to South Carolina’s lowest performing schools.
