Dr. Silvia M. Correa-Torres is a professor in the School of Special Education at the University of Northern Colorado. She is also the coordinator of the Special Education Ph.D. program and Director of Research and Evaluation at the Bresnahan-Halstead Center at UNC. Dr. Correa-Torres is a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment (TSVI) Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS). Silvia has been working in the field of blindness and deafblindness, in different capacities, for over 25 years. She has taught in a variety of settings and in different cultures. Dr. Correa-Torres’ research interests include: needs of students with visual impairment who are from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and their families; orientation and mobility; communication issues among students with deafblindness; services for individuals with disabilities at the international level; personnel preparation; inclusion; and special education leadership preparation.
