Judge Mortenson has worked with the IDEA since 1994. In 1995, Judge Mortenson opened a law practice specializing in special education. Judge Mortenson joined the Minnesota Department of Education in 1999 and became Minnesota’s due process hearing coordinator, a position he held until 2008. He served on his local school board from 2006 through 2009. From 2008 through 2013, Judge Mortenson heard cases for the District of Columbia’s SEA. Judge Mortenson joined the Minnesota Court of Administrative Hearings in 2014, the position he currently holds.
