Ms. Boccumini is currently the Legal Director of Student Advocacy, having arrived at that position after over 10 years as an Educational Advocate after her retirement from the Yonkers School District where she had taught 4th-6th grades for 25 years. She also represents children in New York’s Family Court system.
She will talk about Student Advocacy’s holistic approach to advocacy, its commitment to working with schools to overcome the obstacles to school success for every child, and its partnerships with non-educational agencies. She will also reflect candidly on the challenges of working on behalf of children and guiding their parents to an understanding of conflict resolution.
Since she has worked in every one of the 54 school districts, she can speak from personal experience of distinct school district cultures and understanding. She has also represented numerous non-native English speakers, children of undocumented workers, and was part of the major shifts that occurred because of the court-supervised integration of the Yonkers School District.
