This interactive workshop equips participants with the knowledge, strategies, and practical tools needed to communicate effectively when facilitating proceedings that involve persons with disabilities. Participants will examine common myths and misconceptions about disability, while building a realistic and respectful understanding of lived experiences; explore approaches to anticipate communication barriers and proactively create accessible, inclusive environments for all participants; understand the unique responsibilities of third-party neutral in shaping inclusive proceedings, setting the tone, and modeling best practices in communication, and apply learned concepts to real-world scenarios through case studies, role-play, and problem-solving exercises that reinforce effective facilitation skills.
